THE BEEHIVE Bar, the first property in Lurgan to benefit from the the Townscape Heritage Initiave, administered by Lurgan Forward and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has reopened after extensive refurbishment.

The premises first opened it's doors in 1884 and the heritage and character has not been lost in the upgrade. One of the early proprietors, Valentine Harrison, has his name retained in the original mosaic in the entrance and a portrait of the late Tommy McConaghy still overlooks the front bar.

The new lounge compliments the original bar and can be accessed via the side entrance, patrons have been pleasantly surprised by the ambience of the renovated premises.

The premises have tripled in capacity and offer a good wine selection and cocktail menu along with all the favourite tipples.

Cosy snugs, leather sofa and soft music gives patrons a little privacy where conversation and good craic are guaranteed.

For the winter months ahead a blazing fire will help warm the cockles or alternatively the friendly bar staff will happily serve up a spirit or two to do the trick.

Sports fans are assured of unobstructed views on one of the flat screen televisions around the bar and lounge.

Smokers have not been forgotten and are catered for in the covered and heated patio and beer garden.

The bar is managed by Conor McConaghy and Declan Smith and, although recently retired, Jarlath McConaghy still maintains a close interest.

The refurbishment was expertly carried out by O'Donnell O'Neill Design Associates who worked closely with Lurgan Forward and the Heritage Lottery Fund, who part funded the project.
